Aftercare

Sometimes also referred to as scalp or hair tattoo, SMP can fix;

Scalp Micropigmentation Pre-care

  • Do not consume any alcohol or caffeine a day before the procedure.
  • Avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen 48 hours before treatment- as these will thin the blood leading to potential colour fading.
  • Moisturise the scalp twice a day to soften the skin, having soft skin allows for better results. This is especially important if you suffer from dry skin
  • Trim the scalp the night before with a trimmer or a foil shaver to a grade 0.5/ 1. DO NOT use a razor 24 hrs before treatment this will make the scalp more sour
  • Start thinking of what hairline you would want! Do you want a slightly receded hairline / or a natural scattered hairline etc, have a look online and bring those in. But if your still unsure- don’t worry we will pick the most natural suited hairline for you.
  • Make sure you ate and well before the treatment or bring a snack in as you will be sat there for possibly 3-4 hours and you’ll need all the energy you can get

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) AfterCare

Hi everyone, at Scalp.inc every client will receive thorough instruction prior to and after each SMP session undertaken.

 Congratulations on completing your first SMP session!

 We hope you love your new hairline. Here’s some advice on how to ensure your SMP heals correctly and is looking fresh and at its best;

Always after each SMP session keep your scalp dry for up to 4 days.

Do Not touch or rub the treated area with unwashed hands. Bacteria lives on the surface of your skin and this could cause an infection.

Do Not peel or pick at scabs. Let it fall off naturally. Picking and pulling off skin that is not ready to be removed will cause pigment loss, and may look patchy.

1. During your first 4 days

You may experience some redness or itchiness this is totally normal and will subside within few days.

  • Do NOT wash, touch, or shave your head and protect scalp from the rain- You can wear a hat just make sure it’s clean and loosely fitted so the scalp can breathe during the healing stage (but No wooley hats during the healing stage).
  • Avoid excessive sweating people so NO gym, NO cardio, NO running (if you do overly sweat just use a towel/ tissue and pat down dry)

2. Day 5 to Day 6

  • Now a good time to gently wash your scalp with some warm water ONLY (Don’t soak your head in a bath) make sure it’s light water pressure, and don’t aggressively scrub the scalp or exfoliate. Just pat dry after showering!
  • Apply a natural moisturiser to prevent any dry skin, this really helps the healing process too.
  • You can now start any physical training but can ONLY sweat lightly, avoid any tough cardio sessions. You can sweat excessively after day 7 (so just hold in there)
  • Do Not shave the head.

3. Day 7 & Onward

  • After 7 days you can resume your showering sessions and get back to your usual schedule. Although we recommend using a sulfate free shampoo or shampoos that are fragrance and alcohol free (this helps reduce premature colour fading)
  • You can now get back to the gym, continue your normal routine & sweat as much as you like.
  • Always use SPF 50+ protect the scalp from direct sunlight and help preserve your colour (for our bald clients).
  • If you want to shave your head now is a good time to do it. Just make sure the scalp is scab free and if so continue using an electric foil shaver or trimmer. (You should wait 14 days before wet shaving with a razor blade)

4. Day 30 onwards

  • You can now start to use swimming pools, steam rooms and saunas and hit the beaches again (always use SPF 50+ on scalp when out in the Sun)

Long-term SMP Aftercare

  • For the first month, do not use chlorinated pools, saunas or steam rooms.
  • Direct UV rays are harmful to the treated area, so minimise sun exposed and use SPF 50+ before going out!
  • Continue to moisturise daily with a natural, simple moisturising cream (Aveeno/ Simple)
  • Avoid products that contain a high concentration of alcohol.
  • Avoid using AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) containing products in the treatment area because it will make the pigment fade.

The Aftercare is as easy as that.

As you can see, the SMP aftercare guide is not difficult to follow and sticking to it will allow you to gain the best natural looking results!
