Scalp micropigmentation is very different to a traditional body tattoo and so are the pain levels. The pigment doesn’t go as deep as a traditional tattoo therefore the pain is more like a minor vibration. A topical numbing cream is applied to the area prior to treatment to avoid any discomfort and I will be checking on you throughout the treatment. Believe it or not we have even had some clients fall asleep when they have been having theirs done.
Yes, scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a relatively safe hair loss treatment with satisfying results, people suffering from:
- Skin breakouts
- Psoriasis
- Keloids
- Needle allergy
- Ink allergy
Are not good candidates for scalp micropigmentation and should consult with a trained professional before undergoing the procedure.
Definitely. The pigments are designed to create the most natural appearance. The technique is so delicate that only you and the artist will know you have had it done.
Absolutely. The beauty of scalp micropigmentation is that it can be used to camouflage hair transplant scars and look completely natural. It is the perfect way to complete your hair journey.
NO, scalp micropigmentation will not grow your hair back. However, the SMP treatment will give you the look of short hair or a tight buzz-cut. We recommend keeping your hair at a shorter length to create the most natural outcome.
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical method of inserting natural pigment deposits through the dermal layer of the scalp. The pigment deposits replicate your existing hair follicles and creates the illusion of a natural looking full head of hair for both men & Women.
If you are completely bald or are have thinning hair or even not totally satisfied from a hair transplant and require more density then SMP can help you.
Our treatment ranges from £400 – £2500 depending on the type of procedure required and the severity of hair loss to the scalp.
Please send us few photos of your hair loss and we can provide an accurate quote for you.
Not at all. This procedure is safe and there is no risk to your existing hair follicles nor will it prevent future growth for those considering hair transplants afterwards. This is because we only focus our techniques and attention on areas with hair loss. In some cases the treatment has been known to stimulate hair growth!
Our aim is to always to create hairlines that are natural, undetectable and suits the clients face the best. We can help you achieve this by going through some pictures of hairlines that you like (i.e. broken, soft, slightly receding, barber edged up, widows peak) or you can show one you like / use some old hairline pictures of yourself so we can create exactly what you once had.
But don’t worry if you’re unsure our techniques and procedures will help ensure you get the best hairline that is age appropriate, looks natural, blends into any existing hair follicles and suits your face & style and is correctly placed. We then can create the hairline of your choice taking into consideration your hair follicle colour, size of hair follicle, pattern of the existing hair all to help get it done right first time
Each SMP treatment is typically done over 2-4 sessions. This is to ensure we gradually build up the tattoo by blending it in, adjusting the density & ink colour as we go along all existing hair to ensure we create the most natural results. Each session generally lasts between 2-4 hours depending on the area we need to cover.
Majority of our clients complete their full treatment within 2-8 weeks depending on the treatment type. Our general timeline for treatments is a 7-10 day gap between each treatment.
Most clients describe the pain from 2-4 out of 10.
The honest answer – it’s more of a discomfort feeling than pain! Its nothing like a normal tattoo as that goes into the skin deeper. We advise clients to have eaten well and be in good health on the day of treatment. Our pre-treatment advice also includes moisturising the scalp twice daily in the days leading up to your procedure to help soften the skin this also reduces the pain and allows for better results too.
But the satisfaction you’ll feel after solving your hair loss will far outweigh any discomfort from the SMP treatment.
As SMP is non-invasive and non-surgical procedure. There is NO downtime associated with it, apart from a little redness that subsides within 24 hours, you only need to follow the aftercare and that’s about all. Many of our clients come in for treatment and are back to work the next day.
Aftercare is simple. Keep the area clean and dry, and avoid direct sunlight during the 4 day healing stage. So please avoid shampoos, chemicals, submerging your head under water, 4 days after each treatment you should NOT go gym/train, so avoid sweating whatsoever, this is essential otherwise the treatment will not produce the best results. After 4 days you can train but only lightly, you can sweat excessively after 10 days.
A Loose fitted hats can be worn after the treatment but do allow your head to breath without out it getting wet. Always try and apply SPF 50+ when out in the sun to prolong the life your SMP
The real benefit of SMP is that there is hardly any maintenance.
So if a client has SMP to majority of the scalp area (i.e. crown to hairline) and wants to rock a really short buzz-cut then they will need to trim there scalp few times a week, to blend in their natural hair with the SMP treatment, this just keeps it looking undetectable and fresh.
We do recommend to use a trimmer with no guard to keep it looking at its best. Apart from moisturizing and sunscreen, there’s nothing else required!
Direct sunlight can cause the pigments to fade quicker, and overtime this will lighten to your treatment. Always wear sunscreen protection (SPF 50+) or a hat whenever out in the sun or when expecting to be in direct sunlight for over an hour. Doing this will keep your scalp looking crisp!
YES! The treatment is perfectly safe (I’ve also had SMP done), we wrap and sterile all our equipment before each treatment and only use brand new packaged needles for every procedure. We take health & safety very seriously and are fully insured and regulated.
Avoid getting your scalp wet for the first 4 days after each SMP treatment. So, NO washing, sweating and protect from the rain also. After 5-6 days you can give your scalp a good wash with warm water only, but no shampoo just dam water on and dry. After Day 7 you can resume your showering sessions again, but please try and avoid anti-dandruff & fragrance free shampoos as these contain harsh chemicals that are likely to affect your pigment later.
If you use any products in your hair please use these only after 10 days after each treatment.
Yes! Scalp Micropigmentation isn’t just for male pattern baldness. It is also used to conceal scars from previous surgeries or injuries. Both FUE and FUT transplant scars can be concealed with SMP creating a natural undetectable look.
Yes, you may drink alcohol and take any medications that you need to straight after any treatment – but do drink responsibly and look after that scalp.
YES! SMP will enhance any existing thinning hair transplants and won’t affect any future planned hair transplants either.
So If you have undergone a hair transplant surgery that later has started to thin, SMP can definitely help create that natural illusion of density. We do this by placing pigments in between transplanted hair to reduce the visibility of the fleshiness of the scalp.
